TRADITIONAL FOODS IN ENGLAND

Traditionally, British food has consisted of beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish. These dishes are usually served with potatoes and also a piece of vegetable. In England, traditional meals have ancient origins. Some of these meals are bread and cheese, roasted and stewed meats, meat and game pies, and freshwater and saltwater fish. In this post, we are going to see some of the most traditional dishes in England:

Fish and chips
Maybe you have heard of "Fish and Chips". This is a very well-known dish in England that consists of fish (it can be cod, haddock, huss or plaice) deep fried in flour batter with chips (fried potatoes).

Yorkshire Pudding
This English dish is usually served as a meal. It is made from batter (a mixture of eggs, flour and milk) baked in the oven. This dish is served with gravy and vegetables. If there is any pudding left, these are served with jam or ice-cream as a dessert.

Toad in the  hole
This is a traditional English dish similar to Yorkshire Pudding. However, this one consists of sausages placed in the batter before being cooked. The origin of its name is often disputed. Many people suggest that this dish looks like a toad sticking its head out of a hole.

Shepherd's pie
Shepherd's pie is a traditional English dish that consists of a layer of minced lamb covered with mashed potato and, if you prefer, you can also cover it with a layer of cheese.

Lancashire Hotpot
Lancashire Hotpot is an English dish made from lamb or mutton and onion, and it is covered with sliced potatoes. It has to be baked in the oven during a whole day on a low heat.
